Welcome, everybody from ProBlogger.
You’re probably here after reading my contribution to ProBlogger while Darren takes a little vaca with the fam. I hope you learned from the post and liked it well enough to drop by on the regular… maybe even become a subscriber to the 52 Novels feed.
I realize there’s an About me page, but I figured I’d give you the nickel tour. I’m a writer here in Denver, and I read lots of books featuring guns and cops and criminals. I’m writing a crime novel — my second — and I won’t tell you what it’s about.
I used to puke out reviews for the books I blow through. But I enjoy reading them more than I like writing about them, so I stopped doing that. Besides, there’re are people who do it who are much better at it than I.
Instead, I shine the light on writing — the topic in general, as well as the pursuit — and I’m adding more stuff about how technology and software lubricates the sprockets and gears down at the ol’ verb factory. Here are some popular posts1 on the subject:
- The top 5 FREE software programs every writer should have
- The version suicides, Part 1
- The version suicides, Part 2
- The version suicides, Part 3 (Coming SOON!)
You’ll also find some DRM (and otherwise) free e-book downloads:
- Three sci-fi novels from Cory Doctorow
- Three thriller novels and a big honkin collection of short stories from J.A. Konrath
- A primer for sci-fi/fantasy novelist Holly Lisle’s awesome how-to book on plotting
So pull up a chair, crack open a cool one. Stay a while.
If you’re wanting to chat about books and stuff with man behind the curtain, do the comment deal or send me mail at rob at 52 novels dot com (you’ll have to rewrite that with the appropriate symbol2 and a well-placed period3). I promise I’ll say something droll.

I enjoyed your guest post on Problogger so I came here and spent much more time than intended exploring your content. Useful and interesting, but also very readable - you definitely have a great writing gift!
As a frustrated novelist I was inspired by some of your posts to get my finger out and finish my first draft, which is 80% done (the last 20% being hindered by such a total lack of planning I’ve got no idea how the story ends). Blogs like yours can help me with motivation.
So what Darren writes on Problogger is true - a guest post can bring in new readers who become subscribers if they like the content. I’ve just subscribed, so it worked with me.
Graham: I’m glad you liked what I wrote for Darren, and thank you for your kind words. I hope you stick around here for a while.
It’s good that you’re dusting off your book and getting back at it. The number reason a novel doesn’t get published is because it doesn’t get finished. Even best sellers agree: endings are hard.
I do recommend Holly Lisle’s Plot Clinic as an effective tool to help you get out of whatever jam you find yourself in with your manuscript. It’s cheap — about $10 US — and it’s gotten me out of numerous corners.
Again… thanks!
I loved your post on Problogger, though I am not a writer, and English is my second language. What you said makes a lot of sense, even if it defies the ideas of English teachers and “purists”. IMO, blogging at it’s best is a conversation, where the reader is engaged and is having fun. That’s the second reason I loved your post -it was entertaining. Oops… the “ing” thing. I probably failed all your advice in this comment:) What else could you expect from a non-native speaker?:)
@Faina: I’m glad you liked it! Thanks.
