I liked this book a lot. It was fast paced with a nice twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. I should have. Testament to the writer.
I was reading one of the Amazon reviews of this book and the reviewer complained that Phillips didn’t update the hard-boiled style for 2004. Well, duh. It was set in the 50s. It was perfect just as it was written. This was Hard Case’s first original title and its second book overall.
Further, Max Phillips is Hard Case’s graphic designer and imprint co-founder. It’s clear the line is a labor of love all around.
Good read and I recommend it.
