I was recently talking to a writer friend of mine who claimed he hadn’t been doing anything lately because he didn’t have time to write.
Uh huh. Keep telling yourself that.
I find that making time for anything is fairly easy when you actually do it.
I get to the gym every day because I make time for exercise. I read a lot of books because I make time for reading. I have a happy marriage because I find time to do it. (Fill in your own blanks on that one!)
And it’s not a matter of priorities or scheduling or some system… although it can be. We all know people who plan their writing time just as they would their work day. (And my feeling is that it’s the people who do that who are the ones who are full time authors… or on their way to being full time authors).
But it doesn’t have to be that way… especially if writing is what you’re meant to do.
Just find five minutes each day.
We’ve all got that much. Even the busiest of the busy have five stinking minutes.
So what are you waiting for?

Amen to that! It never fails to amaze how many people “don’t have time for X” but can still manage to give you the play by play on last week’s episode of Desperate Housewives. And a writer who doesn’t have time to write is… er, *what* exactly? (Oh my, but isn’t all that just a tad self-righteous for someone - me - who is stalling and surfing instead of balancing the chequebook?!)

Thanks for stopping by, Jen. Don’t get me wrong, there are times I find myself sucked into an Internet worm hole or unable to resist the beauty of a nap on a weekend afternoon.
But I have to agree that writers with no time to write aren’t exactly writers. If that makes me self-righteous… so be it.
