Two things about my free copy of Small is the New Big

by Rob @ 52 Novels on August 25, 2006

I wrote yesterday about getting a free copy of Seth Godin’s new book, Small Is the New Big.

I think the idea that inspired the book is really good: collect the best of the best from Seth’s blog, throw in some of the awesome ebooks he gives away, and put ‘em all in a book… a one-stop shop of Seth (with an index). Heck these things are even listed alphabetically, encyclopedia-style.

But, for me, the book misses the mark. It’s not the content, though. It’s the format. Part of the beauty of reading Seth Godin’s blog is that he follows his own advice and makes the experience of reading his stuff the free prize. Each day there’s something new. Sometimes it’s just a little thing that tickles him. Sometimes it’s more than that… MUCH more than that.

The book, even though it’s all the same content but in a new format, just can’t re-create that.

Now, the other thing… I got this book for free from BzzAgent. In the package came a letter explaining why I got the book. The salutation? “Dear BzzAgent.”

Ironic, considering Godin is big on creating personal relationships with customers and clients because it’s those folks who become your best salespeople. It’s even more ironic (if that’s possible) considering the founder of BzzAgent, David Balter, is a Godin disciple.
