Where’s the beef?! Revisited. (Or “Why I can’t keep promises to myself” in 500 words or less)

I know. I know.

It wasn’t that long ago that I remarked that this carved out slice of Internet space was woefully out of date. Look below about two posts and see it for yourself.

Like before, I have been keeping up with the reading. In fact, I’m just about to finish my June slog: Stephen King’s, The Stand. I started this beast a few days before my wife and I left for vacation Memorial Day weekend.

I’m just now finishing. I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m a slow reader, although it’s gotten better. Even still, I figured I’d be done with this King classic by now. It’s the expanded edition, an 1150 page monster (pun intended) that replaced the original in 1990 or so. While I admire that King felt the book was unfinished in its original form–the publisher made him snip about 400 pages from it because the accountants didn’t think anyone would pay more than $13 for a harcover in 1978–there were times I felt King should have gone ahead and left them out.

I figure that one is going to get me creamed with diehard King fans, a group I consider myself a new member of. I take comfort in knowing that I seem to be the only one who reads what’s written here and only then because I’m the schlub who’s responsible for writing it.

So this detour now brings me back to my premise: where’s all the damn reviews?

About two weeks ago, my aforementioned wife sent out an e-mail to friends and family with some updates about what’s happening with us here at the base of the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. She asked me to give it a read before sending it. Always an editor, I made the decision to drop the URL for this little piece of Internet poo into the message before it got broadcast to the people we love. I regretted it almost immediately.

With that, I figured I should actually resume the writing and reviewing. This presented its own little challenge. I had actually written reviews for all the books I’ve read this years, save for a few. I just need to drop them in, add some pictures, flesh them out a little, maybe makes some things link to other places, make sure the books are linked just in case someone wanted to read one for themselves. On and on and on and on.

Frankly, that just intimidated the shit out of me. Okay, maybe not initimidated me, but it sounded like a lot of work. I have six months of books to add and an empire to run!

As a compromise to myself (as if my standards weren’t sometimes low enough) I decided to break them up into months, with reviews for all books for the month in a single post until I catch up.

Then I can go forward with the stuff from here.

So stay tuned, race fans.
